Czech women seek compensation for coerced sterilisations

Lawmakers in the Czech Republic are considering a new proposal to pay compensation to hundreds or even thousands of women who were sterilised without their consent.

Most of the procedures were carried out during the 70s and 80s, and most of the women were part of the nation’s Roma minority.

Now campaigners hope they are close to winning a long-running battle for financial redress.
